Acupuncture Modalities: Bodywork Services at Aloha Qi
At Aloha Qi Acupuncture and Herbs, we combine various bodywork modalities with acupuncture to offer a comprehensive approach to healing. These treatments not only support the flow of energy throughout the body but also promote relaxation, pain relief, and physical rejuvenation. Here are the specialized techniques we incorporate into our acupuncture treatments:
Tui Na Massage
Tui Na (pronounced “twee nah”) is a form of Chinese therapeutic massage that complements acupuncture by targeting acupressure points, meridians, and muscles. It helps release blocked energy (Qi), improve circulation, and relieve tension. Often used for conditions like musculoskeletal pain, stress, and digestive disorders, Tui Na incorporates various techniques such as kneading, rolling, pressing, and tapping.
During a Tui Na session, the therapist uses their hands, fingers, and sometimes elbows to apply focused pressure on specific points. The goal is to harmonize the body’s energy, restore balance, and stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping is a technique where special glass or silicone cups are placed on the skin to create a vacuum. This suction draws blood to the surface and helps release toxins, alleviate muscle tightness, and promote better circulation. Cupping is particularly beneficial for treating chronic pain, respiratory conditions, and muscle stiffness.
At Aloha Qi Acupuncture and Herbs, we use both dry cupping (without the use of needles) and moving cupping (where the cups are gently moved across the skin to target larger areas of tension). This therapy can be deeply relaxing and is an effective way to enhance your healing process.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves the burning of a dried herb called mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near specific acupuncture points. The gentle heat produced by the burning herb is used to warm the body and stimulate the flow of Qi, especially in cases of cold or deficiency.
This technique is often used in conjunction with acupuncture to promote healing, improve circulation, and treat conditions such as fatigue, digestive issues, and pain associated with coldness (e.g., joint pain or menstrual cramps). Moxibustion can be a soothing and restorative therapy to support your body’s natural healing process.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a traditional healing technique that involves scraping a smooth-edged tool across the skin, typically on the back, neck, or shoulders. This treatment helps release muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote the movement of Qi. Gua Sha is especially effective for chronic muscle pain, headaches, and improving the range of motion.
After a session of Gua Sha, you may notice some temporary redness or “sha” marks on the skin, which are a sign that blood flow has been stimulated and toxins have been released. This therapy is often combined with acupuncture for more comprehensive pain relief and recovery.
Low Light Laser Therapy
Low Light Laser Therapy (LLLT) uses low-level laser light to stimulate the body’s healing process. The light energy penetrates the skin to activate cellular regeneration, reduce inflammation, and promote pain relief. This therapy is particularly effective for conditions such as arthritis, joint pain, and injuries.
LLLT is non-invasive and pain-free, providing an alternative to traditional treatments like pain medication or more aggressive procedures. It can be used alongside acupuncture to enhance healing, speed recovery, and provide long-lasting relief from pain and inflammation.
